Kam Sing Nights
O.J. San Felipe went back and forth between San Francisco and Brooklyn (difficult choices?) before settling in Brooklyn in 2000 and establishing him in the garage pop party band Golden Triangle. Xray Eyeballs started as a solo project in the vein of hazy, scuzzy and fuzz loaded lullabies. A band was eventually recruited (members of Golden Triangle,
Drums, and others) and their debut LP, Not Nothing, came out April 19th on Kanine Records and features the track 'Egyptian Magician.' The music is drenched in reverb and chugs away slowly like an overweight surf rock tune done by Jesus and Mary Chain or Velvet Underground. The other track, 'Kamsing Nights' is probably one of my favorites from the band (so far) and was featured on the Crystal EP released earlier this year. It has some great echo-y thumping drums and shaving guitars that'll make you feel like you're listening while lost in a dark, fog drenched hallway with strobes coming at you from all directions. Catch their blissful wall of sound live May 20 at Psycho Beach Party with Grass Widow at Blue Star in L.A. (tickets) and 3:00 p.m. May 21 at Burger Records (free) in Fullerton with local CWR favorite Catwalk.
Below is the voodoo themed video for the leadoff track from the EP and the LP, 'Crystal.'
