LA's nite jewel has put together an EP, Am I Real, with some new songs that were previously on their european tour-only EP, You F O.  you can pick it up now in digital format, or wait until aug. 16 when it's released on vinyl.  it also includes the lovely tune 'we want our things.'

pop duo out of san francisco consisting of ryan lynch and hannah hunt.  some self-proclaimed 'demos' came up around the holidays last year while they were touring with girls, whom ryan lynch also plays guitar for, but nothing else since...until now.  looks like we'll be getting an EP on august 17, which is available here.  if you like these tunes i highly recommend you listen to the other few tracks available here.

SOUTH CAROLINA by tennis

there's a summer thing going on here.  denver couple who ooze 60s pop summertime melodies.  many of their songs were written while sailing together for 8 months, and you can tell.  here's their first single, 'south carolina,' and another song 'marathon.'

and now to best coast (literally).  the much hyped debut record by the fuzzy, girl group harmonies duo turned out exactly as expected, but the 'our deal' tune is nice.  it's summertime so why not?  the lp comes out july 27.  and i added a second mp3 so you can reach your own conclusions.

let's bring it back to the best coast (no, not THAT best coast...yet).  this san francisco band has too many releases over the past few years on various different labels to even try to get a good explanation of.  nevertheless, i believe we have a 6-track lp coming out this summer.

yup, another band from brooklyn.  they must be adding something to the water out there.  they signed to secretly canadian for their second lp called pigeons, which came out on june 8.  even though 'collector' is the obvious standout track on the record, 'casual' has definitely grown on me the past month as a personal favorite.

these guys are from the wonderful city of austin and released an lp earlier this year on matador.  this track is the first song that surfaced before actual release, which i immediately enjoyed.  they're playing tonight at the echo and tickets are only $10.  they seem like they'll be a fun act.  see you there!

brad oberhofer moved from tacoma to ny at 19.  he put together a demo tape recorded from his bedroom while he was an intern at matador.  those demos have floated around the internet since late last year.  it all sounds pretty good for the low quality...so good that the hype has led him to form a band and start doing shows these past few months.  his first single, o0Oo0Oo, will be released as a 7" on august 3 and is available for pre-order from insound. did i mention that he's 19?

OH MY GOD by cults

the blogosphere went into a frenzy when this brooklyn duo mysteriously released their first single, go outside, via select music blogs a few months ago.  now we get another peek at a new track, oh my god, from their forthcoming lp.  while we're at it, we may as well revisit the 60's influenced pleasantries of go outside again. you can see them at the bootleg theater on july 22 (tickets) opening for maps and atlases.
