EIGHT FEET HIGH by Indian Wars

Eight Feet High
Took A Trip

These Vancouver garage rockers come at you with the rawness expected from this genre, and mash it with enough twang and country that easily convince you that their garages are the type that have swinging doors on them.  The band are following up its 2009 If You Want Me EP with their debut LP called Walk Around The Park (buy), which came out April 20 on the Austrian label Bachelor Records.  They take the raw country sound, add some violins and keyboards, and start up a

LAUGHING THE WHOLE TIME by Dominant Legs and ROSE AGAIN by Melted Toys

Laughing The Whole Time (by Dominant Legs)
Rose Again (by Melted Toys)
by Dominant Legs (previously on CWR)

San Francisco's Dominant Legs have been a favorite around here since the early days of this blog.  The band is made up of Ryan Lynch and Hannah Hunt, and Ryan is better known as playing guitar for that other great San Francisco band Girls

[on repeat] CHAPEL OF ROSES by Charles Leo Gebhardt IV

A Chapel Of Roses
Teach My Heart

Seattle man Charles Leo Gebhardt IV plays in Unnatural Helpers and Idle Times, but he also does the solo thing and has a new album, Begin Again, currently out on ggnzla Records. It’s playful and extremely catchy, with elements of folk and a little gritty, twangy, early country. His first foray into the solo word was his Unfaithful EP in 2009. Check out two tunes from the current LP above. After you're hooked and looking for some more, you can stream the album and buy it for $5 at his Bandcamp.

NOT A WASTE OF SKY by Trust

Not A Waste of Sky
Candy Walls

I came across this dark sounding Canadian duo upon listening to my copy of the Todo Muere Volume 1 compilation from Sacred Bones Records that was released for Record Store Day. The duo only has one 7″ released to date for the single 'Candy Walls,' but it's the track, 'Not a Waste of Sky,' from the compilation that really stood out for me. Be sure to check out the comp if you can. Five out of the eight songs on Todo Muere are unreleased rarities including b-sides, alternate

BLAME THE RECORDS by Gross Relations

Blame The Records
You Don't Know Me

Two tracks from Brooklyn's Gross Relations catalog of 4 singles.  'Blame The Records' is a catchy garage track that introduces some nice organ, and 'You Don't Know Me' is the b-side off their first single that has been a staple around here that anyone who listens to the Chromewaves Radio stream would already know.  Listen to all their singles at their Bandcamp where you can download singles 2-4 for free, but you have to fork out $1.99 for the band's first single 'Fuzzy Timelines.'  Physical copies

TAKE YA DANCIN' by Say Hi

Take Ya Dancin'
All The Pretty Ones

Say Hi (originally Say Hi To Your Mom) is a band that's been around a while (7 LPs since 2002), but I just learned of them a few months ago from their most recent release, Um, Uh Oh. I've been listening to this album off and on and I've genuinely been enjoying it, but just never got around to posting about it. So here ya go... The record came out in January on Barsuk Records and from what I've seen on the interweb it represents a pretty significant evolution and maturation in their sound. In just

TOWN CRAZIES by Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt

Town Crazies
Funeral Playlist

Today's tunes come from a student at Indiana University that shot over an email to me of three of his songs. I probably should have waited until the end to make any age reference because you wouldn't expect it after hearing his stuff. He's been playing in friend's basements for years now and he didn't start sharing his music until one of his friends came across it on his computer. Since then, he's started a band and has been picked up by the small record label Gulcher Records (Kurt Vile's first label).

VELVET DAYS by Fungi Girls

Velvet Days
All Night Blues

Texas' Fungi Girls are back making news with a teaser of two songs from their second LP, Some Easy Magic, scheduled to be released July 11 from Hozac Records.  Take a listen to two of the songs off the LP and feel free to download one of 'em.  It's not a stretch to say that we'll be getting some more of that hazey, nostalgic, garage/surf that they do oh so well.  Catch their back catalog at their new Bandcamp site.  They'll be in L.A. July 27 for an in-store at the great Chicago record store moved

[on repeat] OUTTA MY MIND by Trent Fox And The Tenants

Outta My Mind
Old Lady

Kind Turkey Records has provided some more listening enjoyment in Milwaukee's Trent Fox and The Tenants.  The Mess Around EP was released in February and it's loaded with 5 rocking tracks that breeze along with the energy and swagger of a band that's been doing it a while.  Listen two of the tracks above, download one of 'em, and head over to buy yourself a copy of the physical record in its limited edition...100 in Green Bay Packers Green 'n Gold Edition, and 400 on black vinyl.  Each is hand

BONES by Male Bonding

Bones
Your Contact

The London trio released the very enjoyable (and very overlooked) Nothing Hurts LP last year, and they aren't waiting around very long for their next output.  Word has it that a sophomore release titled Endless Now is being finished up for an August 30, 2011, release and once again it's on Sub Pop.  The band has given us a taste of what to expect in

PARTY CITY by Je Suis France

Party City
Zetado

I don't really know much of anything about these guys.  The internet isn't too friendly to them (or vice versa based on their main website).  I can't even remember where I originally heard them, but they've been on the list for posting for some time now.  They're a 9-piece from Athens, Ga and released

I CAN HEAR THE TRAINS COMING by Mathieu Santos

I Can Hear The Trains Coming
Too Too Too Fast (by Ra Ra Riot)

Ra Ra Riot bassist Mathieu Santos is releasing a 300 copy limited edition, green vinyl 7″ through Old Flame Records on July 26th (pre-order).  It serves as his solo debut, and he's offering up the A-side of the single, 'I Can Hear The Trains

HEISSE HEXE by Two Tears

Heisse Hexe
Eat People

The name for Kind Turkey Records is fitting considering the man behind the magic is a kind fellow.  After purchasing his Hussy LP, he happily sent over some other gems for me to listen to and one of them is the 7" single for 'Eat People'

[on repeat] FINE by Ty Segall

Fine (from Goodbye Bread)
You Make The Sun Fry (previously)

It's easy to expect a gushing reception for Ty Segall's new LP, Goodbye Bread, because of the irregular love he gets here, but this entirely biased opinion will still tell you that you need to hear it as soon as you get your hands on it.  It's

NEON KIDS by Cosmonauts

Neon Kids
TV California

Cosmonauts are a local 4-piece out of Orange County that released their self-titled debut (buy) earlier this year on Chicago's Permanent Records.  Take a look at their album cover art to the left and I bet you that the assumption you make about their sound will be entirely off base.  These guys can bring it, and that's exactly what you'll get from today's

MONO by Collider

Mono

A nice reader sent me some music suggestions last week out of the goodness of his heart (i.e. he has no affiliation with the bands or labels), and one of them from the band Collider has struck a chord with me.  The San Fransisco group has released three previous EPs prior to the current single, 'Mono.'  The single is a bombastic, but pleasant electronic

[on repeat] WHITE NIGHT by The Postelles

White Night
Stella

Do you remember how much fun The Strokes debut LP was when it came out?  Well, The Postelles are a 4-piece out of New York (coincidence?) whose self-titled debut LP carries the same type of energy as Is This It and comes out today on Plus One Records.  The record definitely has a 'city'

LOVE IS A DREAM by Lonesome Ghost

Love Is A Dream
Golden Cage

A couple of tunes from Dallas' Lonesome Ghost who released its debut EP, These Songs Are Not About Your Or Anyone You Know on its Bandcamp February of this year.  It's happy pop that is also incorporating that oh so popular surf jangle.  Regardless, it deserves repeated listens for the

TINY LITTLE VOID by Goodwill Tapes From Outer Space

Tiny Little Void
Eyedrops

It's always a nice surprise to come across something in my email inbox that is an enjoyable listen.  The number of emails I get is growing, which is wonderful (not complaining), but it does take a lot of time and filtering through everything is arduous given that a lot of them don't fit what I want for the blog.  It's especially nice when the email comes from

[on repeat] WRONG/RIGHT by The Hussy

Wrong/Right
Sexi Ladi

The Hussy is a rocking garage punk duo out of Madison Wisconsin that consists of Bobby Hussy (the man who started Kind Turkey Records) and Heather Sawyer.  Their debut LP, Cement Tomb Mind Control, came out May 9 on Slow Fizz Records and manages to pack 13 tracks of high energetic fury into a mere 22 minute ride.  They have a

WILDFIRE by SBTRKT (feat. Little Dragon)

Wildfire (feat. Little Dragon)
Hide Or Seek

SBTRKT is a dub-step like variation out of the UK.  The group is mysterious and doesn't promote much information about themselves.  That seems to be the normal way of doing things in this genre I suppose.  They've signed to Young Turks for the release of their self-titled debut LP on June 28 (pre-order).  Their live show consists of one to two
