THE OTHER SIDE by Bad Indians

The Other Side

All Over Now (previously on CWR)

Michigan's Bad Indians have a new 7" coming out this month from Urinal Cake Records, and you guessed it, 'The Other Side' is one of the tracks featured on the release.  The tune has that crunchy, cowboy sound that we know them all too well for, but don't forget that they're also capable of belting out more pleasantries just like 'All Over Now.'  They have LOADS of stuff over at their Bandcamp so go check it out and keep your eyes peeled at the Urinal Cake site for the release of the 7".  Enjoy a live performance of 'The Other Side' after jump.

STRANGER by King Tuff

Stranger (by King Tuff) - previously on CWR

Waste A Lot Of Things (by Jaill) - previously on CWR
Trailer Park Boneyard (by The Coathangers)

King Tuff's self-titled follow-up to the overwhelmingly great 2008 LP, Was Dead, finally came out yesterday from Sub Pop! (buy).  I've spent the past few weeks listening, soaking it in, basking in its glam-ness, and it's a softer, slower affair than his debut solo LP, but don't let that dissuade you because it's still miles better than lots of the other stuff

[on repeat] MAKE IT GO AWAY by The Zoltars

Make It Go Away
If It Were Up To Me

The journey taken with The Zoltars out of Austin is a slow one that's quite a departure from the raucous rockin' stuff that seems to be everywhere at the moment, but you need to remember what they say about smelling the flowers along the way.  Their debut LP, Should I Try Once More, was released April 10 from Sundae Records (buy).  The LP's 10 tracks tell the progressive story about someone falling in love all over

[on repeat] HEAVEN AND HELL by Eternal Summers

Heaven And Hell

Millions

Virginia's Eternal Summers didn't just add a bass player to their duo over the past year...they've managed to re-work their minimalistic dream fuzz sound into something quite spectacular.  They are following up their debut LP, Silver, with Correct Behavior on July 24 from Kanine Records (pre-order).  We were given a taste of the new full sound, studio polishing, and increase in rhythmic intensity a few weeks ago when the band released the preview track 'Millions,' and the entire full-

[on repeat] MURDERED ON THE WAY by Grandma's Boyfriend

Murdered On The Way
Jellyyyyyyyyyyy

Besides having one of the best band names I've heard in a while, Grandma's Boyfriend come to you from San Francisco and play some nervy, straightforward, 70's style power pop.  'Murdered On The Way' highlights the consistent collection of 6 tunes included on their self-titled 7" EP that came out April 1 from Loglady Records that is about “getting killed and lost love and girls that just take things too far.”  Stay focused

HAPPY BIRTHDAY by Black Elephant

Happy Birthday
Four Years

Black Elephant is yet another promising band out of L.A. that has returned as a full four-piece after a brief hiatus back in 2011. The band is recording and playing shows again and two of their newest demos, which include the swirly and dreamy 'Happy Birthday' above, are available for stream/download over at their Bandcamp. Their only previous release up to this point is a cassette release last year entitled Four

BATHROOM FLOOR by ILLLS

Bathroom Floor

Teeth (previously on CWR)

Out of the Cats Purring collective, Mississippi's ILLLS have added to the two fuzzed out tunes we heard previously and are gearing up for the release of their debut EP, Dark Paradise, which will be out June 17 from The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing Records.  The EP includes six tracks, which includes 'Bathroom Floor' above and the two songs featured here last December.  The EP is available for pre-order over

BC by Cold Showers

BC (from Room 205)
So I Can Grow (Alternate Take) - (previously on CWR)

This past March, the gloomy L.A. four-piece, Cold Showers, visited Room 205 for a haunting performance of 'BC,' which is a track that has yet to be released physically.  It's another dark, moodier affair that immediately grabs you after the first few notes.  They have a new Decay 7" coming out this year

HIGH FANTASY by Lace Curtains

High Fantasy
Mood Ring (by Harlem)

Just last week I posted about Harlem side project Grape St. and was wondering what the ultimate fate of Harlem truly was given the lack of information that had been released up to that point.  Well, as luck would have it, another side project from the other talented songwriter in the group, Michael Coomer, has surfaced and he has confirmed that he's moved from Austin to Brooklyn, but that 'Harlem isn't broken up in any real

REACTION by Warm Soda

Reaction

I (Heart) You Tonight (by Bare Wires)

Matthew Melton (former frontman of Bare Wires) didn't waste much time putting together a new band, Warm Soda, after the Bare Wires announcement of a breakup a few weeks ago.  Fans of Oakland's Bare Wires shouldn't be too disappointed about the breakup anymore when they hear the new track, 'Reaction,' that Warm Soda has made public.  It contains all the catchy, power pop goodness that we grew to love from Bare Wires with a 70's sheen and guitar licking that is hard to resist.  The track will be included on their upcoming 7" from

[on repeat] ONE MORE TEAR TO CRY by Mac DeMarco

One More Tear To Cry

Baby's Wearing Blue Jeans

Mac DeMarco is from Montreal and brings a stylish, sexy grooviness to his sound.  He is formerly of the fuzz pop group Makeout Videotape, but he captures a soothing, glossy, 70's loungy-ness on his solo debut, Rock And Roll Night Club, which came out March 20 on Captured Tracks (buy).  The LP has an overall sleak, humorously mischievous quality about it with its loose rhythms, hazy baritone vocals, and minimalistic

[on repeat] BADILLAC by Pangea

Badillac

River

I've been meaning to post about L.A. rockers Pangea's new EP, Killer Dreams, since reading about it over at fellow L.A. blog Heard Instinct a couple months ago.  Pangea is widely known as one of the best bands in L.A. and they deliver an intense, rollicking, twangy edition of straightforward garage rock.  With the Killer Dreams EP the sound is a little more focused than last year's Living Dummy LP and it results in

(THEY FOUND ME IN THE BACK OF) THE GALAXY by The Intelligence

(They Found Me In The Back Of) The Galaxy
White Corvette (previously on CWR)

We got some great news yesterday of a new track of the upcoming seventh LP from The Intelligence out on June 19 from In The Red Records.  The album is titled Everybody's Got It Easy But Me, and the new single '(They Found Me In The Back of) The Galaxy' is not only included on the album, but is also part of a split 7" with the Bay Area's multi-instrumentalist rocker Kelley Stoltz.  It's so nice to have some new material to look forward to from the whimsical rocker Lars Finberg who also plays drums for Thee Oh Sees and relocated

DREAM GIRLZ by Grape St.

Dream Girlz

A Date With You

There seems to be no clear confirmation of the dissolution of Austin's wonderfully fun trio Harlem, but what does seem to be true is that at least one of the members clearly left the confines of Austin for the bright lights of Brooklyn.  We can only hope that the distance between members doesn't mean that their days of recording together are over, but we have the side project of Grape St. from the Austin remnants of Curtis

[on repeat/giveaway] AIRPLANE WITH TITS by Rayon Beach

Airplane With Tits
Staring Out Of An Apartment (previously on CWR)

Hozac Records is gearing up for another round of releases later this month.  The first of the batch I'm sharing is the debut LP, This Looks Serious, from the Austin trio Rayon Beach.  The record consistently delivers a scuzzy, spacey blend of dizzying rock that will charge you with its steady throbbing of high voltage sounds.  Some might say that they have been searching for their sound on the previous two 7"'s

COUCH SURFER by Triptides

Couch Surfer
Going Under

Triptides are out of Indiana and they record breezy, retro surf pop.  They have released a few digital and limited edition (now sold out) cassette LPs on their Bandcamp and through Beachtapes Records since 2010.  The most recent, Psychic Summer, came out in July of last year from Beachtapes and features the catchy, 60s inspired tune 'Going Under.'  The folks over at Croque Macadam Records in France wisely

WAVE GOODBYE by Ty Segall Band

Wave Goodbye
Crybaby (with White Fence)

Two of the busiest men in rock continue to be Ty Segall and White Fence.  Over the past few years I can't think of many others that have produced more releases than these two guys.  The two of them have their collaborative LP, Hair, that was just released April 24 from Drag City (buy).  White Fence has Family Perfume Vol. 1 that was released April 3 (out of print) and Vol. 2 is on the way on May 15 (pre-order)...both

BACK TO THE SUN/GIRLFRIEND SWAP by Roommates

Back To The Sun/Girlfriend Swap
1st Floor Blues

Roommates is a duo consisting of Ben Cook (from Young Governor, Fucked Up, The Bitters, Marvelous Darlings) and Mark Fosco (Marvelous Darlings).  If you know these guys then you know it's worth listening to.  While living together years ago as actual roommates they set out to record some songs for 'fun' as limited, rare recordings.  Originally, the songs were released as rare cassette singles, and the band
