TINY LITTLE VOID by Goodwill Tapes From Outer Space

Tiny Little Void
Eyedrops

It's always a nice surprise to come across something in my email inbox that is an enjoyable listen.  The number of emails I get is growing, which is wonderful (not complaining), but it does take a lot of time and filtering through everything is arduous given that a lot of them don't fit what I want for the blog.  It's especially nice when the email comes from
someone who is clearly a pleasant individual, and as an added bonus they are a regular reader/listener of the blog.  Goodwiill Tapes From Outer Space falls into this category and from what I know about the 'band,' which isn't much due to its relative newness and obscureness, this is a real DIY project in its earlies and truest form.  I'm assuming it's a one-man act out of the Netherlands that consists of Josh, and in listening to the self-titled debut LP and its lo-fi qualities it's clear that he is working with minimal resources, but sometimes that sort of packaging helps accentuate the underlying qualities of the product that are clearly evident.  In this case, it's the ability to craft melodic, uplifting pop tunes.  As you'd probably guess from the band name, there's an overall space-y feel to the songs with the synth organs and electronic drums/cymbals taking the lead and giving the tunes a very 'carnival in outer space' feel.  I sense a lot of Oberhofer in the general sound.  I'm glad Josh has been a regular reader of this blog, I'm glad that he shared his music with me, and I'm looking forward to being able to see his songwriting craft grow from pretty much the beginning. The 13-track album was self- released on May 10 and is available as a free download here.  There isn't a reason to not listen when it's free.
