Y Do U Call Me
I'm Leaving It Up To You (cover of Dale & Grace)
L.A. via Oakland via Massachusetts' Colleen Green released her new 'Green One' 7" from Hardly Art Records on March 1 (buy). It has 4 tracks that have rapidly scratched up quite a few listens on my iPod the last couple weeks. Listen to 2 of the 4 songs on the 7" above and do yourself a favor and pick up the record to hear the other two. Within two months of
getting to L.A., Colleen had written and recorded her cassette EP Milo Goes to Compton; within five months she had released both that tape and the 4 Loko 2 Kayla CD-R EP as well. I've been trying to get my hands on these, but they're sold out and I've only been able to scavenge scattered mp3s floating around the interweb (or I'm just not looking in the right places). She sings lovely, catchy, fuzzy songs that range from 80s pop to throwback psychedelic drone, and 90s power punk a la Sebadoh-style songs of heartache. Her tracks skip between dancing the night a way, crank calling boys, and getting baked. The more time you spend with Colleen, the more you realize her love of weed. She performs on stage alone with a drum machine most of the time, and she's currently on an intensive couple of months of touring so catch her if you can (dates). Oh, I'm not done yet...she also has a comic strip. Is she a genius? Not quite sure yet, but I think this may be the start of something beautiful.
