Frenchmen Cheveu aren't your typical Frenchmen in that their music conveys a much different feel than what you'd normally expect from a French outfit...it's glorious racket with grit, strings, electronics, and riffs. It's The Animals take on Serge Gainsbourg tunes with a hint of DeVotchKa baroque. They released their second LP, 1000, January 18 on Born
Bad Records in France and Kill Shaman Records here in the states. After only two records their sound continues to grow beyond what you'd expect in such a short time, but they're clearly polishing up their sound, pushing boundaries, and trying new things. Take a listen to 'No Birds' off 1000 and 'Happiness' off their 2008 self-titled debut, which is about being bored and doing dirty, dirty, things to a girl...and see what you think. I'm really enjoying both records a lot. It's a nice break from a lot of the other stuff coming out.
