Heart Attack Kid
I finally got my copy of Bass Drum of Death's debut LP, GB City, and it doesn't disappoint. They continue along the path of the wildly contagious noisy garage rock that drew high interest from the singles and EPs they released last year. It's straightforward rock that is fun and hits you like Ty Segall and Harlem and includes plenty of fuzz, raucous drums, and shouted vocals, which isn't as obnoxious as that may sound to some. The songs are about drugs, trying to make it with religious girls, panic attacks, stealing stuff, mild to severe depression, Elvis appearing in your dreams and giving you advice, gravity bongs and the devil living inside your brain. How can it miss? They are out Mississippi and join others out of the scene there such as Dead Gaze, Flight, Junk Culture, Tommy Toussaint, Pink Priest, and Dent May. In fact, this group of bands from Mississippi has formed Cats Purring, which is a self-billed 'infotainment cult,' where they make music, book shows, and have house parties all at a dude ranch. Check out their website, Twitter, and Tumblr. It sounds like a blast...but getting back to the music...check out the title track from the new LP along with a song that's been on the radio rotation since last fall. Enjoy!
