I'll admit, I spent quite some time avoiding listening to anything by Yuck primarily based on the band name alone. I still can't remember how or where I finally listened to something, but the self-titled debut LP ended up in my phone about a month ago and I must say that I was very pleasantly
surprised. The album starts to lose me a bit towards the end, but for the most part its entertaining and does a wonderful job of taking me back to the college rock I was listening to in the 90's...Dinosaur Jr., Smashing Pumpkins (the first two albums only), and there's even a song reminiscent of Velocity Girl. The band is made up of members from New York, Hiroshima, and London, and the record is scheduled to be released February 15th on Fat Possum Records (buy). Check out two tracks above. They'll be on a fantastic bill at The Echo tomorrow night with two bands also featured here previously...The Smith Westerns and Therapies Son. Unfortunately, it's sold out so you'll have to scavenge for tickets if you don't already have some. Otherwise, I'll see you there.
