Darlin'
On first listen, James Pants pretty much immediately caught my attention. There really isn't a clear category to throw him into, but he's yet another Texas artist making great music. He manages to create the fuzz I enjoy so much and mesh it with electro, soul, boogie, lo-fi, beats, and a variety of 80s
influences. Stones Throw Reords released his debut album, Welcome, in 2008, and his second LP, Seven Seals, in 2009. His third LP is self-titled and will be out on April 19 also on Stones Throw Reords. You can get a taste of what I'm having difficulty trying to describe here by listening to two tracks from the upcoming album above. 'Alone' and 'Darlin' are good examples of how this guy is stylistically all over the place, yet not...all at the same time and still managing to be catchy as all hell.
