WANIWANIPANIC by The Vanities

Fans of sweet, saccharine-laced indie sounds must give the newly released compilation, Soon V.A., a listen.  It comes to us from Japanese online indie label ano(t)raks.  The comp was released on September 14 and appears to only be available digitally at the label's Bandcamp.  The Vanities are a duo out of Japan and their tune, 'Waniwanipanic,' is a definite
highlight with it's intense, driving guitar, a slight 80's feel, and whispery female vocals that make it hard to not think about Lush.  Their Soundcloud is full of tracks labeled as 'demos' but they clearly have an affinity for the shoegaze sound. Soon V.A.'s lead track, 'Not So Sweet,' is from The Paellas, a 4-piece out of Osaka that seem to be the better known band featured on the release and after a few listens to their Soundcloud are very well deserving of their own post here sometime soon.  In this song they blend a classically luminous indie sound with deep crooning vocals. The compilation is definitely a nice change of pace with sounds from Japanese bands that most of us will probably be hearing for the first time so go listen and buy
