[on repeat] THROUGH THE D by Dick Diver

What's happening right now in Australia is so exciting.  There is so much great music coming out of there at the moment that it's a task keeping up with it all.  All the collaborations between bands and their members further muddy the waters.  Case in point, Dick Diver, a band that I was fortunate to come across while first hearing of Boomgates and their
absolutely fantastic record, Double Natural.  Boomgates in itself is a conglomeration of of Aussie bands (Twerps, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Teen Archer) that includes representation from Dick Diver so I looked into it further...and what a pleasurable find.  The band followed up a 2009 EP with the release of their debut LP, New Start Again, in October of last year on the same date of the release of the debut LP by fellow label mates Twerps.  New Start Again is a warm, lush, casual blend of indie rock that takes from many of the elements that made The Church so great over the decades, but the LP also has a slacker, scrappy quality that gives it a nice choppy edge in all the right places that could very well be lent to bassist Al Montfort of Total Control and drummer Steph Hughes of Boomgates.  Guitars jangle and chime throughout the album and vocals are broody and comforting with the occasional sprinkling of female vocals as a perfect complement.  The Aussie collaborations continued on New Start Again with recording assistance from Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring.  Twerps made it to the U.S. lets hope these guys can get out here at some point as well.  Two stellar tracks from the LP above, and check out the video for the closing, and quite humorous track to the LP, 'Head Back' below.  Don't miss out on their 2009 EP, Arks Up, available at their Bandcamp.

The LP was released from popular Aussie label Chapter Music, but when you decide to buy this record you're better off grabbing it from Permanent Records if you're in the U.S. because shipping fees from Australia are ridiculous.
