Lotus Plaza's new LP Spooky Action At A Distance really surprised me. The 'other' guitarist (and mult-instrumentalist) from Deerhunter, Lockett Pundt, released his second LP on April 2 from Kranky Records (buy). I was expecting more of the experimental, swirly, repetitive pedal effects that seemed to take over his debut solo release, The Floodlight Collective, but instead was met with some extremely accessible,
beautifully crafted, melodic pop songs that would fit alongside any of Deerhunter's best. This one is a must for any Deerhunter fan, and contains enough merit on its own to free itself from any need to be compared to the 'main band.' Just trying to pick which songs to post was a chore. Lotus Plaza will be in L.A. May 10 at the Echo in an opening slot for Ramona Falls (tickets).
