Foppish gallant and scarecrow thin
I spent a bit of time the last couple weeks delving in to the three LP's released by Montreal's Expwy since last June (that's only 10 months folks), and have come out with the knowledge that Matt LeGroulx can consistently write some gritty, dusty, tunes with nods to the classic guitar sounds of the 60's and 70's. It's stripped down, straightforward, old-fashioned pop/rock with some quirkiness of today's DIY attitude to give it an overall fresh take on the sound. they regularly jump across a whole host of different styles with a seemingly effortless vibe that makes it hard to ignore the fact that Matt clearly has some strong songwriting abilities. His most recent release, Bag of Waters, is his most upbeat collection to date. Both tunes above are from Bag of Waters, which was just released this month, but fans of the classic psychedelic sound should definitely spend some time with all that he has made available to us for free.
