[on repeat] ALLIGATOR LUNGS by Dirt Dress

Dirt Dress are another great burgeoning L.A. band that released the LP, Donde La Vide No Vale Nada (aka D.L.V.N.V.N), in late 2012 from Recess Records on vinyl (buy) and Burger Records on cassette (buy) to follow a few released from Papermade Records. The three-piece showcase a number of different influences on the most recent LP ranging from surf jangle and western twang to straight up,
solid Brit style indie guitar rock behind their high energy retro-garage based sound. There are a slew of standout tracks on the LP including 'Alligator Lungs' with its overwhelming swirling blaze of guitar force, and the ramped up cover of Brian Eno's 'Fat Lady of Limbourg.' The nine tracks on this LP power through a collection that gives a general ramshackled punk impression in the shouting style of vocal delivery such as on 'Stray Cats,' but there's a polish and melody in the guitar riffs, rhythms, and instrumentation that quickly erode away any slop characteristics and complement the quality lyricism that's lacking in many of the punk/surf/whatever bands coming out of L.A. the past few years.

They're playing a house show this Saturday, April 20 with another CWR favorite, Adult Books, at 2237 Fargo St. for only $2. I hope I'm able to make it.
