Sunflower Microphone
I've been enjoying The Spyrals single for 'Sunflower Microphone,' and it's been on steady rotation in the radio stream here since its release late last year. Last month, the San Francisco trio quietly released an LP that I managed to find out about while perusing over at The Styrofoam Drone, and I was excited to give it a listen given the well-deserved, glaring review it received over there. I suppose that's what
happens when you don't have the right label behind you for marketing. The psych-rockers compiled an exceptional collection of cool, hazy, and textured songs that deserve to be noticed. There's the steady buzz of guitar fuzz that sets the tone in the background and it's topped over with some classic echo-y guitar that can't help but remind me of some of Echo & The Bunnymen's instrumentation, which is clear to hear on 'Calling Out Your Name' from the LP.
