[on repeat] 1 YR. by Ketamines

1 Yr.

Kill Me Now

Here's two tunes from Canada's Ketamines debut LP, Spaced Out, to be released March 6 on Southpaw Records (pre-order).  You may be familiar with their great single featured last year for 'Line By Line' released by HoZac Records that included 3 sunny, fun, and VERY psychedelic blend of pop songs.  Spaced Out continues to highlight their ability to meld the psych-pop sound into swirling bursts of effects that shift you

[on repeat] ALWAYS by Woollen Kits

Always

Out Of Whack (previously on CWR)

I posted about Woollen Kits just a few weeks ago after the January 16 release of their debut self-titled LP on RIP Society Records.  They were also just starting their brief U.S. tour across the U.S. from L.A. to Boston.  I mentioned how courageous it was considering how they're from so damn far away (Melbourne, Australia), they're still fairly unknown, and have no label support behind them.  Well, it's three weeks

PRIVATE ROOM by Hunx

Private Room

Always Forever (previously on CWR)

Today we get to premier another preview off the upcoming Hairdresser Blues LP from L.A. resident Hunx.  Hairdresser Blues is Hunx first solo record away from his Punx (or any other of his previous bands), and what you get is a set of all Hunx, all the time (minus the drums)...and anyone familiar with him knows that's a lot of fun, shiny, power pop with just enough scuzz to balance things out.  So, listen to the new

DO IT FOR YOU by Plateaus

Do It For You

Beach Coma

HoZac Records is taking the reigns for the follow-up to Plateaus catchy blend of power pop from its debut 7" release last year on Art Fag Records for 'Beach Coma' (buy).  The new single for 'Do It For You' is expected to be available some time in March, and it continues the extremely hypnotic, energetic sound from this San Diego band (buy).  It's virtually impossible to listen to these two tracks and not want to just

[on repeat] CALLING OUT YOUR NAME by The Spyrals

Calling Out Your Name

Sunflower Microphone

I've been enjoying The Spyrals single for 'Sunflower Microphone,' and it's been on steady rotation in the radio stream here since its release late last year.  Last month, the San Francisco trio quietly released an LP that I managed to find out about while perusing over at The Styrofoam Drone, and I was excited to give it a listen given the well-deserved, glaring review it received over there.  I suppose that's what

NO WAVES by FIDLAR

No Waves
Oh

One of L.A.'s most promising rockers, FIDLAR, are following up last year's DIYDUI 7" (buy) with the No Waves/No Ass 7-inch from Mom and Pop Records on March 13.  They have the reputation of being beer-soaked slackers that are only interested in skating, surfing, Coors Light, and music, and they've been kind enough to offer up the A-side to this forthcomig 7" so feel free to grab this catchy blast of a tune above along with 'Oh' from DIYDUI.  FIDLAR will be playing in

STARING OUT OF AN APARTMENT by Rayon Beach

I Have No Body

Rayon Beach are out of Austin and released their debut EP on HoZac Records in 2010 (buy) and a single for 'Death Rides A

SWAGGER VETS AND DOUBLE MOON by White Fence

Swagger Vets and Double Moon
It Will Never Be (edit)

Tim Presley has given us a wonderful psychedelic LP in each of the last two years with the self-titled debut as White Fence in 2010 and the 2011 follow-up Is Growing Faith in 2011.  He's attempting to continue and surpass this output with a double-LP to be released in 2012 entitled Family Perfume and it will come in two separate volumes with the first on April 9 on Woodsist Records.  Both of the tracks above will appear on Volume 1 of Family Perfume, and 'Swagger Vets...' is an

BOOTS by The Felines

Boots
Daddy Walk

The Felines are an all-girl garage trio out of Denmark.  They formed in 2010 out of their mutual love for 60s garage rock, 70s punk rock, surf, and 80s revival girl groups.  However, there was an issue with playing the instruments since classical piano was all any of them knew.  That's clearly been taken care of since they nail the fun, energy, and raw sound they were striving for in their four track EP coming out in April from Hey Girl! Records.  Two tracks from the EP are above,

GIMMIE A REASON by Outer Minds

Gimmie A Reason
Conversation

A self-titled debut LP is coming from Chicago's Outer Minds on March 5 From Southpaw Records (pre-order).  This LP is coming after a few singles off HoZac the past couple of years that established their 60's, psych influenced fuzz sound.  'Gimmie A Reason' and 'Conversation' are available to listen to above and are both featured on the LP.  'Gimmie A Reason' screams of a classic 60's tune with its synth backing that's

WILD DESIRE by King Tuff

Wild Desire

Hands

L.A. resident and glam-o-rific garage rocker, King Tuff, is kicking off the Suicide Squeeze Records 2012 singles series with a 7" for 'Wild Desire' b/w 'Hole In My Head.' This year's series includes releases from Nobunny, Cloud Nothings, Iron & Wine, and Wax Idols.  Take a listen to 'Wild Desire' above along with King Tuff's always insanely fun tune, 'Hands,' from last year's split 7" with The Hex Dispensers.  Pick up your

SULK by Trust

Sulk
F.T.F. (previously on CWR)

Canada's goth-synth duo Trust established a good buzz leading up to the release of their debut LP with a few singles released last year.  The LP is entitled TRST and is out on February 28 from Arts & Crafts Records.  After a few listens, I think I enjoyed the piecemeal release of their singles more than listening to an entire album, but that is more a testament of my lack of patience for this type of sound than it is to Trust's songwriting abilities.  The songs are still entrancing,

LAZARUS by Teledrome

Lazarus

Double Visions

Some futuristic sounding powerful guitar/synth from Canada's Teledrome rounds out the final preview of HoZac's four exceptional releases coming at us next week.  The Double Visions EP contains five frantic bursts of dark, hypnotizing, synth-laden tracks that are over in less than eight minutes and leave you strangely feeling kinda lost and helpless.  Listen to two of the songs off the EP above and pick up your copy of the 7" EP here.

WITHOUT YOU by Bare Mutants

Without You

Inside My Head

Bare Mutants are releasing their debut 7" as part of four great releases coming from HoZac Records next week (buy).  This is the third feature here on these releases so I'm sure you can probably guess what's coming on the blog tomorrow.  Jered Gummere is the core of the band and has been recording in various other outfits for over 15 years, most notably with The Ponys and Guilty Pleasures.  For this current project he's

THREADS by Evans The Death

Threads
I'm So Unclean

Evans The Death are out of London and they enjoyed some notoriety last year for the double A-sided 'Threads/I'm So Unclean' 7" and are now gearing up for the release of their debut LP in April on Slumberland Records in the U.S. (Fortuna POP! in U.K.).  They have a fully developed, hook-filled, 90mph pop sound that includes a blistering wall of guitars coupled with the exuberant, soulful, and seemingly effortless vocals of Katherine Whitaker.  It's a combination that could
