Chastity Belt are four seemingly rad chicks that come out of Walla Walla, Washington and now find themselves in Seattle. Fortunately, I was hit with their music over at the fine Seattle-based music blog The Finest Kiss. These girls know how to do things simply, effectively, and they definitely know how to not take their shit too seriously. Chastity Belt's first release, Fuck Chastity Belt, was released in May of this year and
consists of four lo-fi, genuine rock songs with grainy guitars, off kilter beats, plenty of punk, plenty of rock, and plenty of humorous tales and self-deprecation around violence and sex. You'll get a good idea of what's going on with this release from the track 'A Bloody Spiral of Unyielding Fury' above. Their latest release, Dude, includes another Walla Walla band, Dude York, serving as the girls rhythm section, which really works. Dude delivers three more lifted, gnarly, punk tunes that are filled with the same pop melody and conviction of their debut. 'Ponytail' itself has hilarious lyrical content, but they show a 'serious' side as well on 'Cadaver.' Go grab BOTH these releases immediately at their Bandcamp...and be sure to toss 'em a few bucks as well because these releases are worth it.
