The UV Race is a proto/garage punk band from Melbourne, Australia that includes members of Dick Diver, Straight Jacket Nation, and School of Radiant Living. They've always been an industrious bunch pushing the limits of what you'd typically expect to come out of a band in the post-punk/garage genre. The band is releasing its third LP,
Racism, to follow-up last year's absolutely stunning LP, Homo and their debut self-titled in 2009. Racism sees the band continuing to explore and experiment with their garage sound based in a slacker mentality by incorporating hand clap rhythms, synths and even modest orchestral arrangements to round out their sound further. They've incorporated elements of glam, psych, new wave, and of course the straight up middle-finger punk. Fans of the Melbourne band won't be disappointed in the new material because their paranoid guitars, their conflicted tempo, and their offbeat fun are all still front and forward. Two tracks from the LP above that illustrate their ingenuity and raw energy. Racism was released on November 13 from In The Red Records (buy).
Also, the band has just completed a film called Autonomy and Deliberation, which is set to come out soon and it'll come with a soundtrack completely separate from Racism. Keep your eyes peeled.
