Trying to describe the sound of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti is a valiant task, but for now let's just be excited that we have a follow-up LP release to the extraordinary Before Today from 2010. The new LP from the west coast natives, Mature Themes, sees the band continuing its unconventionalities with sci-fi, experimentally scattered, dreamy landscapes while all
along incorporating some other-worldly, beautiful, acid-laced melodies. I was happy to have this LP while on vacation and it played a big part in soundtracking the time I was away. 'Only In My Dreams' is the first single off the LP, but 'Driftwood' and its harsh, robotic vocals coupled with the driving bass line and spiraling synths is a definite standout. The record is released today from 4AD so go get yours now (buy). The band will be performing in L.A. on October 5th at the Fonda Theater (tickets).
