[on repeat] MICHAEL by Orca Team

Michael

Too Busy To Love Me (previously on CWR)

Seattle's Orca Team first crept into my world last year with their minimalist, yet witty, take on a 50s/60s hybrid style of surf pop that ultimately ended up with them on my list of favorites for 2011 for their Kissing Cousins cassette.  The band have been hard at work and have just finished funding a Kickstarter project for a tour that takes them throughout much
of the U.S. in June and some U.K. dates in July (sorry, no California dates as of yet) in support of what they're calling their debut LP, Restraint (pre-order), out June 14 on Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records.  They've had a quite a few releases over the past two years as you can tell from their Bandcamp, but technically the band is calling this their debut 12" release and it's a nice way to start things off.  Much of the album follows the 50s/60s pop vibe in that the songs are filled with melancholic emotions of longing and unrequited love, but the joyous sweetness of the music is enough to pull you out of any slumber.  Take a listen to the re-worked version of 'Michael' which was originally included on Kissing Cousins and do yourself a favor and head over to their Bandcamp to stream the rest of the LP because there are loads of other goods to listen to.  And give the heartbreakingly beautiful 'Too Busy To Love Me' another listen.  This LP is sure to sound like a jewel on vinyl (pre-order).
