BLUE MEANIES by Opossom

Opossom is a project headed by a guy named Kody from New Zealand.  He's the brother of a member of the Unknown Mortal Orchestra, has toured as part of that band, and used to front a punk band with his brother called The Mint Chicks. Opossom is set to release its debut LP, Electric Hawaii, on Aug. 7 in the U.S. from Fire Records (after a release in New Zealand from
Dark Summer Records earlier this year). It's not what you'd expect from the former lead of a punk band, but it is what you'd expect from someone so closely associated with Unknown Mortal Orchestra.  As you can see from its first single 'Getaway Tonight' and offered download, 'Blue Meanies,' it's an experimental, layered, bass-heavy psych journey that is hard to ignore.  I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this project as the release date approaches.
