11 of Diamonds (from Past Time LP)
Grass Widow is yet another great band out of the Bay Area. The female power pop trio's newest release is a 3-track 7" for 'Milo Minute' (buy) on their newly established label, HLR Records. The A-side is a steady, fast-paced, post-punk guitar strummer that is hard not to like. The two other tracks consist of exceptional covers of the early 80s indie pop girl band Neo Boys and a tune from Wire. The driving
bass these girls put out is hard to ignore. This single is the first of a string of 'Common Chord' releases that the band will put out on HLR, and all based around the theme of collaboration. If you like what you hear you may want to delve into their Past Time LP released last year from Kill Rock Stars. Be sure not to miss out on the fantastic video below for the single's A-side that was recorded for some lucky gorillas at a zoo.
