Blood Orange is the new solo project from Dev Hynes of Test Icicles (with whom he collaborated on with Tom Vek), and then moved on to the Lightspeed Champion moniker. His new LP, Coastal Grooves, was released August 8 (buy) on Domino Records under his new name and a very new sound. 'Eclectic' doesn't really even do the project justice. The record takes
you through decades of sounds and genres including spacey beats, 80's sounding Prince, and 90's style chill wave. It's an interesting sounding (and extremely enjoyable) record that has all the intricacies and beauties of the first Wild Beasts LP (and more) without all the whining and arrogance. You can catch him at The Troubadour on October 8th opening up for CANT ($15 tickets).
