Nashville based Western Medication just released their debut 7" EP, The Painted World, on January 20th from Jeffrey Drag Records (buy). The band was formed by Justin Landis who spent over a decade in the Nashville punk scene and includes former members of Useless Eaters and Bad Cops and have put together quite the refreshing spin on southern-centric post-punk. The EP contains five tracks that traverse the
ferociousness of bands like Ex-Cult, but with the coolness and more ethereal elements of Wire or The Jesus and Mary Chain. 'Big City' is the band's first single and they waste no time on the attack with 58 seconds of upbeat, fist pumping madness. '50 ft Dive' is the pulsing lead track off the EP that does the perfect job of setting a tone for the record. The band is already working on their follow-up project with the help of Cage The Elephant's Lincoln Parish, but don't look too far ahead just yet.
