Foxygen are a psych duo of L.A. transplants (Olympia and NY) that manage to wield together some of the best retro guitar rock with modern electro synth effects to create quite the visceral experience for the listener. Their form takes a bit from Ariel Pink in that it's not outwardly conventional, but it's still highly melodic and addicting to a point of exuberance with
nods to The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and other purveyors of that era and sound with modern psychedelic touches. The two tracks above are taken from forthcoming sophomore LP, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, from Jagjaguwar Records on January 22. 'San Francisco' has one of the most hypnotizing choruses that has kept me playing it over and over. If you pre-order now you can download the album immediately...and it's worth it.
