WOULD YOU BE MY LOVE by Ty Segall

from Twins (buy)

from I Hate The Kids 7"

There isn't much else to say about Ty Segall these days.  He's venturing into his umpteenth release in a short four years as a solo artist, collaborative effort, and split releases with too many artists and too many labels to mention (again).
Let's just continue to enjoy his rise due to his hard work, but even more due to his ability to write gnarly, gritty rock with a catchy blend of psychedelia and pop that melds the perfect combination of pleasure and pain.  Tomorrow sees his third full-length release of the year, Twins from Drag City Records (buy), but it's the only one of the year credited as a solo Ty Segall release. He mimics the output frequency of legendary bands of the 60's and clearly derives massive influence from that generation, but rest assured the quality does not suffer due to quantity.  It's not his best, but still better than most other stuff out there. Buy your copy... I can't say I agree with charging $18 for the LP, much less charging another $5 for the mp3 download, but I guess that's how some labels show their thanks to the vinyl buying community.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what the future holds if Ty ultimately moves to Nashville, as has been suggested.  There will be a whole new range of artists to collaborate with and it's already started in the recent 7" with Nashville's Seth Hutton (of Useless Eaters) and Dillon Watson (of D. Watusi).  The 7" was released from Nashville's Dead and was only available at a show celebrating their third birthday.  The 7" features a fantastic cover of Brian Eno's 'Needles In The Camel's Eye.'  Stream both tracks on the 7" at Soundcloud.

Ty brings the mayhem of his live show back to L.A. on December 15 at the El Rey Theater (tickets) with Night Beats and Pangea.
