The 'holy shit' reaction I get when listening to new music is very few and far between these days given the incredible access to a vast number of bands via the internet (that's not a complaint). Well, it happened to me a couple weeks ago... the new self-titled Crooked Bangs LP is a mind blowing
collection of songs so if you haven't heard anything from the record then you need to set aside some time to give it a try. Take 30 minutes, strap yourself in, and prepare yourself. The trio is out of Austin, TX, but you wouldn't know it given that a large majority of the songs are sung in French. The lack of understanding the lyrics (if you don't speak French) doesn't even matter because Leda's brooding, deep snarl and angsty howl carries a sexy passion that is surpassed by few. Her vocal style gives each song a dark, menacing feel, yet each song on the record is packed with an intense and driving force of post-punk energy that doesn't let up. This record is a complete beast. You're going to want your own copy so pick one up from Western Medical Records (buy).
