It's In My Blood
The bay area's Kids On A Crime Spree take a page out of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart way of doing things, which means they create some fun, sensible pop that blends elements of early 60's, and 70's glam with a vigorous wall of sound behind it. Having said that, it isn't going to blow you away or leave you with any sort of life changing moment other than an extremely joyous listening experience
of some serious lo-fi, scuzzy noise pop. There definitely isn't a lack of hooks in these tunes as you can tell from these two tracks off the band's debut EP, We Love You So Bad, which was released in May on Slumberland Records (buy). Also, check out the somewhat annoying video for another song off the EP, Sweet Tooth, below. In a way, this record was a decade in the making. While living in Stockholm about a decade ago, Mario Hernandez was listening to the Back To Mono boxset and he became obsessed with the idea of a simple pop song that wasn't simple. He then engrossed himself in the New York scene and then moved to California to begin recording. Ultimately, he chose eight songs out of the more than one hundred that he wrote to be on We Love You So Bad. While recording a band was put together to recreate the sound for a live show.
