I Wear Black (w/ Ty Segall from Reverse Shark Attack)
Mikal Cronin isn't exactly a household name to most, but I think that might be changing. He released an LP in 2009, Reverse Shark Attack, with Ty Segall and the two of them have toured endlessly together and have had a number of other
outputs together on singles or splits. He's also been doing well as a part of the bay area garage/punk outfit Charlie and The Moonhearts. His first full-length solo record is self-titled and scheduled to be released Sep. 20 on Trouble In Mind Records, and we have a sneak peek at 'Apathy,' which is one of the songs featured on it. You can definitely see the similarities in their sound and he seems to be following along with his compatriot and musical companion in cleaning things up and slowing things down...(a bit)...too. Fortunately, there's still plenty of the rocking fuzz, jangle, and garage sounds in this effort that have made this song sound better each time I listen to it. I not only expect to hear his name more, but I'm sure there will be some even more fabulous collaborations with Ty in the future. In the meantime, I'll be anxiously awaiting a copy of the record to hear the rest of it.
And, speaking of Ty Segall, be sure to get your ticket for his show tonight at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts...for God's sake it's only $10 and it's worth at least quadruple that.
